Organisation details
HWL is a local organisation established 25 years ago. Headway West London is a branch of Headway UK, the national brain injury association charity. It is run by a committee of volunteers from a range of professional backgrounds as well as brain injury survivors and carers of injured survivors. The monthly support groups are facilitated by qualified volunteers, all of whom understand life changing effects of brain injury.
The monthly support group meetings are for any adult who has experienced brain injury, as well as their family members and friends. Support group activities vary from month to month often with a mixture of information and fun activities. Adults with brain injuries can meet other people who have had brain injuries and their families and friends. Everyone will also have the opportunity of speaking to and sharing experiences with people who know what it can be like to struggle with the after effects of a brain injury.
Role Summary
Headway West London is looking for someone with excellent accounting and reporting skills. It is important for the volunteer to be empathetic towards the work of Headway and to be able to communicate effectively with other committee members and, on occasions, volunteers and brain injury survivors in order to understand the group’s requirements and aims for future growth.
The volunteer will form part of the Management Committee which currently consists of six members. The current Treasurer is relocating and so the Committee are looking for a replacement.
The Committee meet every month to discuss the management of the group. In addition, the Treasurer will be required on an ongoing basis to write/update financial procedures.

  • On a monthly basis, the Treasurer will:
  • Produce a Treasurer’s report for the Committee meetings
  • Do a bank reconciliation
  • Prepare cheques to be paid, sign (with another cheque signatory) and post to suppliers etc
  • Pay petty cash expenses
  • Collect cash/cheque receipts and pay into bank

Annually the Treasurer will:
Produce annual accounts and file with Headway UK on time
Produce a budget
Produce a financial report for the AGM
Much of the work is done outside of the monthly meetings and can be done from home at times which suit the volunteer.
Time Commitment
2-4 days per month estimated. Work can be done flexibly and remotely for most of the time.
Ideally, the volunteer would attend the committee meetings which take place on the second Thursday of every month between 6.00-7.30pm at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith.
