BISWG - Goal Setting for Acquired Brain Injury

Description: 

This is a one day workshop for social workers and case managers who set goals in working with adults who have ABI in hospital or community settings.

The day will be run by Dr Grahame Simpson, Senior Research Fellow, Research Team Leader/ Social Worker and Clinical Specialist at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (BIRU), Liverpool Hospital Sydney, Australia. Grahame has worked clinically and conducted research in the area of psychosocial adjustment after traumatic brain injury for the past 25 years. He is the member of two editorial boards (Brain Impairment, Australian Social Work), member of the Australian Association of Social Workers National Research Committee and AASW representative for the Australian Rehabilitation Alliance, convened by the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. He was co-founder of the Australian Social Workers in Brain Injury group (AASW) in 1989 and of the International Network of Social Workers in Acquired Brain Injury in 2006. He was recently co-guest editor of a special issue of the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation on suicide and traumatic brain injury, He has an honorary appointment as Senior Lecturer with the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney. He has published 2 book chapters and 31 articles in peer review journals.

1.15 – 1.45            Challenges of Setting Social Work (Psychosocial) Goals within SMART paradigm

1.45 – 2.15            Goal writing Exercise

2.15 – 3.15            Evaluating goals; Goal evaluation exercise

3.15 – 3.30            Final questions, workshop evaluation and close.
