What is the role of UKABIF in the APPG on Acquired Brain Injury?

UKABIF aims to be a resource centre for information about Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). It offers Members of Parliament:

  • A centre of contact for requests for information relating to acquired brain damage. Where we do not hold the information centrally we will do our best to find someone who has the information.
  • Support MPs in answering questions raised by their constituent about ABI.
  • Alert MPs to issues about ABI, which are likely to affect their constituents.
  • Support MPs in understanding the implications of recommended legislation as it impacts on people with ABI.
  • Alert MPs about any recommendations made by policy bodies or official groups, which need an authoritative opinion.
  • Through our working groups provide authoritative statements and recommendations about brain damage on the principles of evidence-based medicine.
  • Support MPs' researchers in finding information about ABI whether at a scientific level, about clinical presentations or concerning local or national specialist units.
  • Provide MPs with summarised information about research, official reports or media presentations.
By providing a central source of information with (eventually) a large database we hope to be able to provide detailed responses quickly.
